It has been quiet for some time, but we have not been sitting on our hands. The new version of odt2braille is finally here, with a lot of new features and improvements.
You can now use almost any type of embosser with odt2braille (Index, Braillo, Interpoint, ViewPlus, Enabling Technologies, CIDAT & Mountbatten), and the preferences have been extended even more: there are new settings for document structure, volume management, tables, notes, pictures, etc.
We also have good news for Mac users! There is now a Mac OS beta version available for you to try out. It does not have the print functionality yet, currently it is only possible to save as Braille. This version is only tested on Mac OS Leopard (run on an Intel processor). Please let us know if it works on your system too!
Also today, AccessODF, a brand new extension for Writer is released. This tool is a really useful complement to odt2braille. AccessODF enables users to evaluate and repair accessibility issues. It is freely available as an extension for Writer.

The upcoming release of odt2braille will support a lot of new embosser models. (Check out the whole list using the link below.) Do you have an embosser? Then we need your help for testing whether it will work correctly with odt2braille! If your embosser is not in the list, please let us know too.
The only requirements for the tests are Java and a browser.

We are very proud to annouce that odt2braille has been selected as SourceForge's April Project of the Month!
Each month, SourceForge chooses one exceptional project from the hundreds of thousands hosted at sourceforge.net and puts it in the spotlights. They interview its members, and publish the results so everyone can gain insight on what they did to become successful, as well as see what is going on behind the scenes.
We would like to thank SourceForge for this great publicity! Since the first release of odt2braille, we have used SourceForge for source code management, bug tracking, feature request tracking, web space, forums etc.
For more information, check out the interview and this blog post.
